Tribal Law

Connecticut is home to two federally recognized sovereign tribal nations: the Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Both nations have their own legal jurisdictions consisting of unique practice rules and laws. Lawyers must be admitted to each nation’s bar in order to practice in their respective court systems.

Conway Stoughton’s Tribal Practice Group’s understanding of, and experience with, tribal law allows us to successfully represent our clients and help them navigate through the nuances of these sovereign nations within Connecticut. Indeed, our experience in this regard covers a broad spectrum of litigation activity ranging from pre-suit investigations designed to limit client exposure all the way through trial.
